While making some cookies tonight, 7-13-13, my wife calls me from upstairs saying these words “Not Guilty”. I knew she was referring to the verdict from the Greg Zimmerman trial. At that moment, the Spirit of the Lord spoke to me and I went to grab my bible and laptop. Let me say that anytime something happens that we don’t understand, we should not seek anger, rage, or revenge but the Lord. Here is what the Lord said to me.
6And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord! the Lord! a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and truth, 7Keeping mercy and loving-kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but Who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.
Each one of us must deal with what I call generational cycles. We have it in our families, communities, church, and nation. This is something that we can’t avoid but must face head on. Now with that being said, let me address the spirit of racism. Racism is connected to and deeply rooted in hate. The definition of hate is to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest. Hate is a spirit that is connected and deeply rooted in murder which means to kill or slaughter inhumanly or barbarously. The spirit of murder is connected and deeply rooted in sin. Racism has been going on throughout the generations and the question is why? Why is it still here? The Spirit of the Lord says that every time racism made its presentation to each generation of the past, they decided to tolerate it by listening and receiving its message.
The way we deal with racism is not by marching, voting, fighting, rioting, getting revenge, and pointing fingers. No! To destroy this spirit now and forever, we must repent for the iniquities of our fathers or the generation before us. We see in verse 7 in the scripture above that God will not clear the guilty until there is repentance. Visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children means that God bring that matter or the issue to the present generation to see if they would repent for not only the actions but the decision by those from the previous generation, to tolerate the sin by not doing anything. You see, racism has no color and it will never be about color. It is a spirit that has been given a home by every culture because of sin. The reason why Greg Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin is because the generational cycle of racism, hate, murder, and sin has not been dealt with in this nation. This is bigger than the trial! Once again, as in times past, God is asking this generation, “How will you respond”? I believe what stops us in this nation from repenting is simply pride. Pride says, I have done nothing wrong! So why must I repent for what my fathers did in the past? When there is no repentance of sin, there is a curse that follows. God is a righteous judge and because of that, he will always decide according to truth. We bring judgment on ourselves because of our own decisions. Proverbs 14:34 34 Uprightness and right standing with God (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) elevate a nation, but sin is a reproach (shame) to any people.
In conclusion, the Lord says to this present generation in this nation, what will you chose? Will you humble yourself and deal with the sins of your fathers? Ignoring it will only cause history to repeat itself. If you continue to refuse to deal with this, what you have read in your history books shall leap off the pages and repeat itself. To my church, I say to you tonight, do not take sides but allow my glory to be seen through your prayers. Yes, pray for my kingdom to come and my will to be done in earth as it is in heaven. Be the light during this dark time. Let not violence or revenge come out of your mouth, remembering that whatever you decree, shall be established. Do not prophesy out of your flesh but only relay what my Spirit is saying. Stand on my word says the Lord. Show this nation that I respond only to hearts that are humble. If you pray and repent, my people, I will remove racism from your land forever but only if you humble yourselves and pray. Did I not say in my word that to those who would humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, that I would hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land(2 Chronicles 7:14)? You have brought this matter of racism before me and now I bring it to you to see if you would be the generation, marked down in history, as the ones who changed the nation by repentance through prayer.
